that for the first time our nation's history, we will honor the most distinguished and illustrious graduate of the College, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. '48 with a monument on the Mall. The memorial is scheduled to be completed by August 2008. It will be the first monument to an African American, the first monument to a Morehouse Man on the National Mall in Washington.
Donations, mostly from major corporations and other organizations, have topped $65.5 million toward the estimated $100 million needed to build the monument.
Its location is flanked by the Lincoln, Thomas Jefferson and Franklin D. Roosevelt memorials near the eastern edge of the Potomac River Tidal Basin.
